Worldbuilding isn't just for fantasy or sci fi—every writer needs to utilize worldbuilding techniques to ground their readers in their story. In this course, you'll learn how to describe without rambling, how to use setting details to reinforce characterization, and how to incorporate exposition in meaningful, interesting ways that make your readers beg for more!
Included in this course:
pre-recorded lessons
examples of immersive worlds
worksheets to plan the details of your world
location description exercises
These lessons are built on academic standards for students in grades 6-8, and include materials to support students who are learning these skills at an introductory level.
These lessons are built on academc standards for students in grades 9-12, and include materials which provide a more in-depth study of the featured topics, skills, and materials.
At the beginning of the course, you'll receive the pre-recorded lessons and class materials for the whole course. I suggest a pace of one lesson (with accompanying activities) a week, though you are welcome to complete them at any time during the 4 week term. At the end of each week, I will hold online "office hours" via Zoom, during which we can connect to discuss your progress as well as any questions you may have. When the term is over, you will lose access to the videos, but your learning materials (worksheets, downloads, etc.) are yours to keep.
